Training Online Vs. In-person Training For Administering Botox

By Alina Karemin

Botulinum toxin injections, fondly called Botox injections, are now common practice the world of cosmetic surgery. Highly specialized Botox treatments are used for a wide variety of symptoms, including smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles, and for other kinds of medical issues as well. Training for healthcare professionals to be able to inject Botox can be rather rigorous and requires certain needs to be met. However, in our ever growing internet world, online training has now become a common path that many take to obtain certification.

But does online training help when it comes to Botox injections? Or should one undergo hands-on training alone. These methods of learning are actually accentuated by each other. We will examine this in more detail.

Training online

The main advantage of online training is that subject matter can be taught to a person in the comfort of their own home at their own convenience. One can view live seminars and what are called webinars, as well as videos and other kinds of courses that are available online. DVDs are another option, and these are provided by many training courses.

Online education is beneficial in many ways, but we must remember that Botox treatments can only happen in-person. There really is no way to learn all that is necessary without trying it personally, watching it is not enough. A person watching videos of a transplant surgeon wouldn't be qualified to do that kind of procedure, obviously. It takes practice with a doctor present to supervise and give criticism in order to gain the skill needed to do the procedure on one's own.

In-person training

There are several ways to learn hands-on, including the use of a training dummy or a volunteer patient. This is supervised usually by a doctor and the trainee will re-do the process over and over, until the doctor is certain that it can be done independently with a high degree of safety for the patient. The advantage of this procedure is that the trainee can learn from an expert and also from the mistakes that they make; online, this kind of critical feedback can't happen so not as much knowledge is gained.

The challenge for hands-on training is organizing the required professionals to be present for the process. It's a challenge to find the time for a busy professional to go to a training seminar in order to show trainees the correct procedures. It is a time-consuming process, and there is also the venue for the training to take place to be considered. However, when we look at this from a wider angle and consider; safety and the results of the procedure for patients, online training just does not measure up to what is learned hands-on.

Combining hands-on with online training

Utilizing these methods in combination makes the most sense for those who are learning Botox injection treatments. Leaning theory and watching online videos can be done at home, and then a training program that is hands-on can be attended to learn the rest. This will arm them with the knowledge of what they are about to learn and see instead of them being completely ignorant of what is being discussed at the hands-on program. Today, these methods combined are the most effective to train. Furthermore, there are complex animations that can now be easily created explaining different procedures which can prepare trainees regarding what they should expect when they attend a formal hands-on training program for Botox injections.

Summary

Both hands-on and online training should be utilized for best results in learning the procedures regarding Botox injections. Each of them have their own advantages and disadvantages but together they can form an excellent and effective training program for future Botox injection providers.
