Now the Norm: Cosmetic Procedures

By Melinda Croning

Everyone wants to look well rested and more youthful. With injectables and skin treatments, plastic surgeons help patients regain their youthful appearance without having to undergo surgery. Patients who do not want the risk of complications or recovery time required for more invasive plastic surgery treatments find that non-invasive cosmetic procedures are a desirable way to improve their appearance.

These days, everyone freely admits if they have had cosmetic surgery, but not long ago it was seen to be embarrassing to admit to having cosmetic surgery of any kind - the world has changed dramatically. Non-surgical procedures are one of the fastest growing areas of plastic surgery. Non-surgical procedures focus on the troublesome areas of the face and body that might make you look old and tired. While the results are often temporary, these procedures are very effective in the short term.

There are many reasons that patients may opt for non-invasive alternatives rather than surgery. The affordability of these treatments is a prime concern. Surgery may be expensive, while injectables or surface treatments are within your budget. Secondly, there is little to no downtime needed for recovery. Those of us with jobs know how difficult it can be to get time off of work. Most of these procedures are done in very little time at the office and patients are able to immediately return to their normal routine. And then there is the safety factor and the reduced risk. This type of cosmetic procedure presents very few complications as compared to surgery. The results eventually wear off if you are not happy with them.

Injectables and surface treatments are the two main types of non-invasive procedures. In an effort to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, injectables are typically used to plump up the face. Laser treatments and chemical peels are surface treatments that target wrinkle reduction. Botox is the most popular non-invasive treatment choice for patients. It is a natural, purified protein that is injected into the brow area where facial lines and wrinkles exist.

The deep, persistent lines between your brows that develop over time are smoothed by physicians when they use it. The facial muscles that cause those lines to form will relax for up to four months with only a few tiny injections. Within days, the apparent results are dramatic. Patients are able to return to normal activity almost immediately after receiving the injections - this is the best part.

Facial fillers are used to plump the skin and replace volume that is lost due to the natural process of aging. These injectables smooth wrinkles and restore the youthful contour of your face.

Laser treatments are another popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure that helps to reduce the signs of aging. Laser skin resurfacing is a procedure that smooths the facial skin and in some cases, can improve the firmness of skin.

To even out skin tone affected by age, sun damage, or acne, a chemical peel is used. This procedure creates younger, smoother skin by using a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of your skin. The look of wrinkles, freckles, scars, fine lines and sun-damage can all be improved by this procedure.

There are a variety of cosmetic procedures. It is clear that there are many means to make you look and feel more beautiful and youthful. The good news is that you no longer have to break the bank to get your own treatment.
