Botox Your Way To A Refreshed Face

By Marlene Ataine

Botox continues to be the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world, due to it's safety record, ease of use, non-invasive nature, and the low price point. Botox Cosmetic is an injected liquid used to treat frown lines, squint and smile lines, nasal crunch lines, and horizontal forehead wrinkles. These lines and wrinkles become less pronounced with a Botox injection. The muscles underneath the skin become relaxed and this reduces the display of wrinkles. Contrary to any myths floating out there, Botox does not travel anywhere else in the body. It is localized to the area of the injection. Normally, the effects of a single treatment will gradually diminish over a six month period.

It's not surprising that Botox is so popular. With an exceptional safety record over the past twenty years, and a price point that is very comfortable and relatively cheap compared with alternatives. Botox has been purified under very strict controlled conditions. It is a bacterium called clostridium botulinum.

It's not just for woman any longer. There is the need and desire among men to look younger. As a result, they are turning to Botox in record numbers. When you look at the numbers, the trend is obvious and only growing. The numbers are quite impressive. Some industry reports have estimated that the numbers have tripled in the past six years. That puts the actual numbers about a half a million men. A segment of about ten percent of all Botox injections.

A lot of reasons are cited to explain the large growing segment of the market that is now looking for youth enhancing procedures. It's not surprising that woman, including girlfriends, family members, and wives are introducing the benefits of looking younger to their male counterparts. The social stigma of not appearing to care about how they look is no longer in fashion for men. Appearance matters and it is becoming evident in study after study.

Botox is Not for Everyone

For a number of reasons, pregnant women, nursing mothers, or patients with neuromuscular diseases like myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or AML, should not use Botox. Patients who are allergic to human albumin, which is different than an egg allergy, should not use Botox. It is not recommended in pregnancy or nursing because it has not been tested.

Although not required, your doctor may numb the area of the injection prior to administering your Botox injections. The Botox procedure is very quick, usually around ten minutes in total, and it is virtually painless. In other words, there should be no down time required at all.

It's not surprising that the affordability of Botox is one of the factors that has driven it's popularity. A Botox treatment will usually range between $300 and $400. Every four to six months, patients will have to return to have another procedure in order to maintain their results.
