Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Wrinkles and fine lines in the face become quite a big concern for ageing people, so many of them are utilizing the latest advances in cosmetic treatments, and that means getting botox injections. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

Celebrity gossip programs on TV talk about botox injections every day, speculating on which celebrities have had the procedure. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. More and more people have realized this now, thanks to all the publicity botox treatments receive through celebrity use.

Botox for men?

It's a mistake for people to think that the only people out there getting botox treatments are women. This is far from the truth. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

Changing trends

The use of botox is rising. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. Most people see these numbers and are not surprised by them. In the past, the general attitude toward botox treatments were negative, but as time goes on, it's no longer just the super wealthy that can afford them, and regular people are much more accepting of the procedure. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

There is more than this though. Many other non-cosmetic disorders can be treated by botox injections, including muscle spasticity disorders and other chronic conditions. Children and adults who suffer from cerebral palsy have had botox help them, as well as those who have blepharospasm and also conditions such as spastic paraparesis. There have been multiple reports of these treatments showing significant benefits for patients. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
