How To Avoid A Fad Weight Loss Diet

By Bonnie Belle

The only thing worse than obesity is following a fad weight loss diet to eliminate it.

Obesity is a physical state that refers to excessive body fat. Chances are you have experienced the frustrations of dieting at least once in your life, if you have problems with your weight.

Although more than a hundred million Americans diet each year, 95% of them get all their weight back within five years. What makes things even worse for a third of them is that they gain more weight back. This failure to lose weight results in switching from one diet plan to another in vain.

The singular reason why most diet plans people follow do not work at all is because they are fad diets or diets that rely on weight loss drugs. These diets either work temporarily or not at all. The high protein and low carbohydrate diets for example are not healthy. While protein is an excellent food source, it should not be taken in excess.

How Protein Helps In Weight Loss

More than half of Americans are overweight or suffering from obesity, and current statistics reckon the figure is close to 65 percent. Although staying thin will improve appearance, improving your health is the main reason to lose weight.

Obesity contributes to as many as 375,000 deaths every single year. People who are obese can face a wide variety of illnesses, including gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Obesity is responsible for public health care costs skyrocketing. Harvard researchers have estimated that obesity is the precursor in 19% of heart attacks, whose annual cost is about $30 billion. Meanwhile, obesity has a significant impact on diabetes, with 57% of diabetes traced back to obesity. The cost of diabetes is about $9 billion a year.

Set Realistic Goals

You have probably been disappointed by more than one diet that failed to deliver on its promise of quick and easy weight loss.

The worst thing about many of these diets is that they made you feel worse. You may have suffered health problems like aches and pains, flatulence, and feeling exhausted all the time.

Fad or quick weight loss diet programs generally overstress one type of food. They contravene the fundamental principle of good nutrition - to remain healthy one must consume a balanced diet, which includes a variety of foods.

Safe, healthy, and permanent weight reduction is what's truly lost among the thousands of popular diet schemes.

weight loss schemes change like the weather. They attract attention for a short while before fading into oblivion. Some lose popularity because they are not safe and create health problems.

Most fad diets emphasize either focusing on one type of food, eliminating one type of food, or eating food combinations that fail to properly fuel the body. Ultimately, all these variations lead to the body consuming itself to make up for the energy it is not getting from foods. The result is a sense of constant fatigue.

Instead of choosing a fad diet that works on catabolism, choose a weight loss diet that is sensible and helps you stay healthy and energetic.
