Is The Ice Cream Diet For Real Or Too Good To Be True?

By Ron Stucky

This diet, the Ice Cream Diet, is a strategy that says you can shed the weight without giving up something like ice cream every day. Imagine that. This is a little hard to believe, as we've all been taught that desserts like ice cream are fattening and will make us gain weight. In order to resolve this question, we have taken a close look at the Ice Cream Diet to find out if you can really lose weight while eating ice cream.

We were a bit taken back when we read that the approach with the Ice Cream Diet is one of low caloric intake each day. Aside from your daily allotment of ice cream, you have to stick to mainly fruits, vegetables, lean meats and other high quality protein. What the ice cream represents is a built-in reward system for being disciplined about your diet. There are components of ice cream that contain something of value to the human body. Milk products are a good source of protein, as well as calcium. Therefore, that added dairy component adds more nutrition than you will have if you adhered to other more strict low calorie diets. This can help you to stick with it long enough to get results.

You can find low calorie ice cream, too, and this will add just one more little source of calcium for women which is very important. Some research has shown that adequate levels of calcium are important for losing weight.

We do feel that the name, Ice Cream Diet, can put all manner of unusual ideas and initial thoughts in someone's head. Right? While it allows you to eat a small portion of ice cream every day, it is still a low calorie diet. It's possible people will see the title and incorrectly think they can lose weight while stuffing themselves full of ice cream.

As you may already have figured out, it doesn't matter if you include ice cream in this diet or not. With this diet, men are not allowed to eat more than 2,000 calories per day, and women 1,500. Plus, it's important that you engage frequent and meaningful exercise. The small portion of ice cream you are permitted must fit into this regime. So when you think about it; when you do the exercise and restrict your calories like that; then it really doesn't matter about the ice cream, or chocolate, etc. So you can see that the ice cream in the Ice Cream Diet is purely for marketing reasons.

Ice Cream sounds like a fun and easy way to lose weight. Eating ice cream everyday should make this diet eaiser and help you to adhere to the strict rules. In conclusion, only you can decide if this diet is going to work for you.

Basic Information On Weight Reduction Surgery

By Kathy Kaufman

Weight reduction surgery or bariatric surgery describes a series of surgical procedures that are performed on obese persons. In the process the stomach is reduced in size by removing a portion. This is achieved by use of what is referred to as sleeve gastrectomy or a simple gastric band. Another option involves the resection and diversion of the small gut to the stomach. Such a procedure is very beneficial to persons that have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. It reduces the risk of complications in these persons.

Bariatric surgery is most helpful in persons that have a body mass index, BMI, of more than 40. It is also recommended for those that have medical conditions that are likely to be worsened by obesity. These include among others, glucose intolerance, hyperlipidaemia and diabetes. Surgical options are reserved for cases that are unresponsive to medical therapy.

The benefits and risks of the procedure should be considered in full before a decision is made as to whether or not to have it. Most common complications that should be considered are malabsorption syndromes and gall bladder diseases. There is a high risk of patients getting into depression and as such pre-operation counselling is warranted.

Surgical procedures are grouped in to three main categories. These are malabsorptive, restrictive or mixed. The most commonly performed is the malabsorptive procedure. Malabsorptive operations aim at creating a physiological state of malabsorption. Biliopancreatic diversion combined with duodenal switch (BDS/DS) is one such undertaking. A section of the stomach is resected, creating a smaller pouch which is then directly connected to the ileum, bypassing the duodenum and jejunum. The malabsorption that results can be severe enough to cause serious deficiency diseases such as osteoporosis and anemia unless vitamins and mineral supplements are administered.

Predominantly restrictive procedures aim at minimizing oral intake by restricting gastric volume. This produces early food satisfaction. Vertical banded gastroplasty involves permanent stapling of the stomach to create a small stomach to handle the food. It is regarded as one of the safest operations carried out today.

Another effective technique that is restrictive in nature is what is referred to as sleeve gastrectomy. As much as 15% of the stomach can be resected by use of this technique. Most of this portion is taken from the greater curvature. This technique transforms it into a tubular shape. Laparoscopes are often used to improve on the accuracy.

In the immediate post-operation period, one should only take liquid foods such as fruit juices and broth and gelatin desserts which are sugar-free. One should eat these foods until the gut fully recovers from the operation. Other diets to be introduced slowly include skimmed milk, cream soup, protein drinks and blended foods.

As with any surgical procedure, there are a number of side effects associated with weight reduction surgery. Persons that have had this operation frequently have difficulties absorbing calcium. As a result, they often get various forms of metabolic bone disease of which osteopenia and secondary hyperparathyroidism are clinical features. The fact that loss of weight has occurred suddenly predisposes these individuals to gall stone formation. Other complications include reduced absorption of essential nutrients such as folate, iron, vitamin B12 and thiamine.

One Of The Best Ways To Burn Fat

By Pete Fry

There are many ways to burn fat, but interval training is definitely one of the best! Interval training is basically periods of work followed by periods of rest. Interval workouts are typically short, sharp and intense, and its this intensity that brings the fat loss results!

Many people believe that long slow cardio is the best kind of training for fat loss but the lack of intensity means that the duration has to be high to see any fat loss results. On the flip-side, you can get a quality interval workout done in less than 15 minutes!

Interval training can be performed in a number of ways and you can use a number of different exercises when using intervals. Running, squats, pushups and dumbbell exercises can all be used in an interval session, but the more explosive the movements are, the better.

To perform a running interval workout, conduct a full warm up and then complete the following 4 times - Sprint 200m, then rest 90 seconds.

When you sprint, go as quickly as you can as training like this works your muscles hard, meaning you'll generate lots of lactic acid - a precursor to fat loss! You don't have to stick to sprinting though - you can also use exercises such as The Burpee.

Burpees are great exercise that challenge your whole body. To perform a burpee, start standing, then crouch down and get yourself into the bottom of a pressup position. Then stand back up as quickly as possible, jump, and clap you hands above you head as you do so.

Here's how to perform an interval workout using burpees...perform as many burpees as you can in 1 minute. Rest 60 - 120 seconds. Repeat 3 -5 times. But beware ! Burpees are evil so go easy if you've never done them before!

Workouts like this are great for fat loss as they are focused around high-intensity training, which is one of the keys to achieving great fat loss results!
